The impact of parental offending on children are significant and widespread. Yet, there is limited research on how to mitigate the effects of parental involvement in the criminal justice system on child and adolescent wellbeing and development.

The aim of this research is to identify how to best provide parenting support to parents who are involved in the criminal justice system, and to use this knowledge to deliver an evidence-based parenting intervention to parents who are serving community-based corrections orders through Queensland Corrective Services’ Probation and Parole. Findings from this research will further our understanding of the role of parenting interventions in promoting positive life outcomes within at-risk populations of adolescents. The study is being conducted in collaboration with researchers from the School of Social Sciences at UQ.
